What should I upgrade first for a smoother desk setup?

For most beginners, upgrade wheels + bearings first. It’s the fastest way to get smoother roll, less wobble, and a more premium desk feel. If it still feels unstable after that, upgrade the trucks next.

Why do my fingerboard wheels not spin?

The two most common reasons are:

  • wheel nuts are too tight
  • there’s hair/dirt in the bearings

Try loosening each wheel nut slightly (about 1/8 turn) and check for debris. If it still feels crunchy, it’s usually time for a wheel/bearing upgrade.

Why does my fingerboard rattle on a desk?

Rattle is almost always loose hardware. Tighten in this order:

  1. baseplate screws (trucks to deck)
  2. kingpin/locknut (truck tightness)
  3. wheel nuts (last, so you don’t kill the roll)

Should beginners use loose or tight trucks for desk riding?

For desk riding, most beginners prefer stable (slightly tighter) trucks. Loose trucks can feel twitchy and noisy. Tighten until it feels controlled, then loosen slightly until it feels comfortable.

Is it better to buy parts or a complete setup?

If you’re new and want it to feel good immediately, a complete setup is usually the smartest choice — it arrives aligned and tuned. Parts are great if you already know what you like or you’re upgrading one weak link at a time.

What makes a fingerboard feel “premium” on a desk?

Three things:

  • smooth roll (wheels + bearings)
  • stable tuning (no random wobble or rattle)
  • comfort in the hand (clean finish + smooth edges)

Can I use a fingerboard as a desk stress toy?

Yes. A stable, smooth setup is perfect for desk use — rolling, tapping, and simple movements can be a great reset during work. If you want it quieter, choose a setup tuned for controlled sound and smooth roll.
