Saigon Skateboards Rust Revolution limited fingerboard deck collection with engraved graphics

Saigon Skateboards: "Rust"

In the vibrant fingerboarding scene of Ho Chi Minh City, Saigon Skateboards has launched a groundbreaking limited collection. These 34mm × 97mm decks, made from 5-ply Canadian Maple with steep kicks and deep concave, showcase a revolutionary rust-effect finish. Using innovative paint and chemical techniques, each deck achieves a realistic oxidized metal appearance while maintaining a completely smooth, glass-like playing surface.

The proprietary rust process layers acrylic-metal hybrid paints with reactive agents that simulate controlled oxidation. Applied in translucent veils, followed by heat, humidity, and chemical baths, each deck develops unique orange-brown speckling. Multiple sanding and UV-cured clear coats ensure durability and zero friction for optimal performance. The result is visually textured yet perfectly smooth — rust you can trust.

Technical excellence defines these decks. Premium 5-ply Canadian Maple provides lively pop and strength in a lightweight package (8–10g). Steep kicks enable explosive tricks, while the deep concave locks fingers for technical maneuvers. Precision shaping and hole drilling meet professional standards, making them ideal for both practice and collection.

The Collection: Five Engraved Designs

Each graphic is laser-engraved onto the signature rust palette, creating a one-of-a-kind interplay between the design and the reactive finish:

  • Flaming Skull — A roaring skull in flames, evoking heavy metal energy against mottled rust.
  • Virgin Mary — Detailed sacred iconography with radiant halo, glowing on golden-amber patina.
  • Star — Radiating celestial star with dynamic lines, shifting from green-yellow to orange.
  • Flower Bouquet — Intricate sunflowers and daisies, sun-drenched in warm speckles.
  • Pinecone Cluster — Textural egg/pinecone forms with lightning accents, pooling patina in crevices.

Each piece is handcrafted, ensuring no two are identical due to the reactive chemistry. The finish adds visual depth without affecting playability on ramps, rails, or flat ground.

Performance Without Compromise

Beyond aesthetics, these decks perform exceptionally. The smooth hydrophobic surface excels in grinds and flips with minimal wax. Steep geometry translates real skate muscle memory to finger scale. In Vietnam's growing fingerboard community, they serve as both tools and cultural artifacts — blending street resilience with spiritual symbolism.

Independent Craft from Saigon

Saigon Skateboards represents independent Vietnamese craftsmanship in a global market. Limited runs sell quickly, appealing to technical riders, collectors, and art enthusiasts. The rust innovation — patent-pending — marks a leap in miniature board finishing.

This collection bridges art, engineering, and skate passion. Small in size yet bold in vision, they capture controlled imperfection: the beauty of rust on flawless maple. Future releases promise new colorways and collaborations, continuing the revolution from Saigon.
