Fingerboarding in August 2026: Scene Heat, Local Sessions, and What’s Dropping Next

Mid-August is heating up for the fingerboarding community. Competitive sanctioned events keep rolling across the US, Europe has a major contest on the calendar, product drops stay frequent from core brands, and one major US city is getting mainstream recognition as a new hub.

Chicago Emerges as a Fingerboarding Mecca

A recent feature highlighted how Chicago’s scene has exploded. TrapDecks, the brand and youth organization led by Justin Ellis, has turned the city into a standout destination through open sessions, community events, and partnerships.

The group’s “The Loft” sessions in Wicker Park have drawn packed crowds of up to 50 riders, with mini-parks featuring ramps, rails, and even a concrete bowl. Their 28th gathering recently wrapped. Index Fingerboarding, the Midwest’s first dedicated fingerboard shop, opened in Wicker Park and hosts competitions and sessions that build local friend groups.

TrapDecks has also run build-your-own fingerboard stations, including with Zumiez’s “More Than Rolling” tour on August 8, collaborated on custom boards for Lollapalooza advertising, and worked with museums, aquariums, and skate groups offering free lessons. Riders and organizers describe the city as currently being the “mecca for fingerboarding.”

Upcoming Events in the Second Half of August

Several USAFBL-sanctioned and community events remain on the calendar:

• August 15–16, Ferndale, Michigan: A two-day event hosted with Da Vinci Daso. USAFBL presence is expected, with parks, vending, and contests planned. It is a strong Midwest stop.
• August 16, Dallas, Texas: Phoenix FB Community’s “Fresh Sesh,” a USAFBL-linked event.
• August 21–22, Florida, Kona Skatepark area: “Game and Grind 2,” a Florida fingerboard event with hangouts on day one and full sessions on day two, including competitions, games, prizes, vendors, parks, and more. The event is hosted around the Fingerboard Connoisseur crew, which is also marking its 10-year anniversary around August 16. Teak Tuning is among the sponsors.
• August 29, Berlin, Germany: Schleudertrauma, billed as “The Ultimate Fingerboard Contest Experience.” It is one of the notable European stops still on the calendar after Fast Fingers 22 in June.

Additional local sessions and USAFBL activity continue in places like Dallas, where Phoenix FB Community has multiple dates, and elsewhere. Check USAFBL channels, local Instagram accounts, and event hosts for last-minute details, as schedules can shift.

Product Drops and What’s Available

Limited and weekly releases remain the norm. Most brands announce primarily on Instagram and sell out quickly.

• Slushcult: Consistent new drops every Friday, including decks, ramps, and collaborations. Fun graphics and shop-session culture continue to drive interest.
• Teak Tuning: Recent PROlific Series completes, expanding Apex wheels with new colorways and durometers, and ongoing Session obstacles. Fingerboard Con-related gear from earlier in the year may still have limited stock.
• FlatFace: A steady flow of G16 decks, pro models, Real Wear graphics, Blistered urethane wheels, Blackriver collaborations, and weekly-ish wheel drops. Check daily for new items.
• Blackriver and Berlinwood: Regular restocks of ramps, trucks, and graphics. Pro models and collector’s editions appear periodically, often teased through Instagram. Post-Fast Fingers activity keeps the catalog fresh.
• Other makers: December Fingerboards may have its next major drop around September. Smaller makers and collaborations, including Dynamic trucks colorways, continue to release limited runs. Plies Magazine’s August 2026 issue, number 21, is out or imminent with scene coverage and reviews.

Pro tip: Follow brand accounts such as @slushcult, @teaktuning, @flatfaceig, and @blackriver_official, along with local crews, and sign up for newsletters. Many limited wooden decks, pro models, and obstacle runs disappear fast. Completes remain a solid entry point, while upgrading trucks and wheels is common once you’re hooked.

Broader Scene Notes

The competitive side keeps expanding through USAFBL-sanctioned events, rankings, and pathways toward regionals and nationals. International growth continues after Fast Fingers 22, the physical world championship held in Germany in June.

Community-focused shops and DIY sessions remain the heart of the culture, whether it’s Chicago’s Loft, Slushcult’s Mini Mart hangouts, or Florida’s park sessions.

August still has strong activity left. Hit a local event if you can, refresh those drop pages on Fridays, and keep an eye on Chicago’s rising scene. The tiny boards are having a big year.
